I used some Christmas money to buy a sewing machine today. Shan's grandma went with me to Target and we picked out my very first sewing machine. I came home, watched the dvd telling me how to set it up, went upstairs to find some things to use and made this beautiful burp cloth. I used an old shirt that no longer fits (finally able to take advantage of these extra baby pounds I have yet to lose) and some ribbon I had along with an old burp cloth of Jordan's. Actually it may look beautiful from far away and as long as you don't look at the back you might think I know what I'm doing. A close look will tell you I still need quite a bit of practice but it's a good start anyway. You can start placing orders soon. :)
How fun this homemaking stuff is!!!!
More to come.

Yay! I have a sewing novice friend. I have never taken a class, but right after Thanksgiving, I was inspired to borrow my mom's sewing machine (she has never used it since she bought it three years ago). I have been sewing placemat purses. I am not good at all--I read the instructional manual front to back. I hadn't heard of a bobbin before I read the manual. BUT, I figure I can keep practicing and learn the hard way . . . Placemat purses are easy and cute--look them up online!
I think that's great that you've taken up a new hobby! Personally, I think having a creative outlet is really important! However, I will have to stick to making cards, cause I'm absolutely terrible at sewing! I really admire your ability to whip out such a cute item on your first try! That's awesome! Keep it up! Remember practice makes perfect!!! :)
I love it!! you are so motivated sometimes:) Can't wait to see all of your creations!
love ya

Wow Jen, I am super impressed! I will come to you for all my sewing needs. I can't even sew a button back on a shirt, so a sewing machine would greatly scare me if I ever got too close.
I am with Laura! I am so excited for you! Can't wait to see what else you make.
Great job! It is so much fun. I started sewing when I was pregnant with Sarah Riley and I made her curtains. Since then it has been purses, tablecloths and napkins for her tea party, and now I want to attempt a quilt! Once you get started it is addictive!
Jen,
That's great! You have a new hobby! I love sewing, but never have the time to put into my projects, so I'm so excited for you! The burp cloth looks so great, and I'm sure considering it's your first time, the back doesn't look too bad either! Have fun with your new machine!
It was great to see you after church! You're such an amazing encourager! Thank you for your kind words!
